Our Heros

Catherine

One of the three lost Aneirin children and the last of their magical race. Catherine and her siblings were sent from their home by their mother across the ocean to save them from certain death. Catherine doesn’t remember the time before she was sent away and has tried to find peace in her life in Port Nobel but can’t shake the feeling that she was meant to be more. Catherine has a strong desire to protect her brother and sister and finds balance when she is able to focus on her senses and block out the chaos of the world around her.

Nathan

Catherine’s older brother and one of the three lost Aneirin children. Nathan remembers his life in Noleva and is desperate to get back to his mother, even though he knows she died to save them. Nathan has made many escape attempts from the children’s adopted home but hasn’t been able to find a way across the ocean. He knows that he and his siblings can use the magical Sacred Fire that all Aneirin can, but hasn’t been able to use it himself since he was younger for reasons he can’t understand. Jealous and confused by his inability, he doesn’t share the knowledge of his siblings magical powers with them.

Abigail

The youngest of the three Aneirin siblings. Abby has no memory of Noleva or her mother but feels an intense pull for adventure. She is gifted at puzzles and riddles and delights in figuring out what others cannot. Abby is desperate to have her brother and sister read the large storybook in their room to her, which has been kept off limits to her. Abby’s curiosity about the book and where she and her siblings came from drives her to seek answers without her brother and sister knowing what she is doing.

The Villain

Merek

The source of nightmares and dread for almost everyone on the island of Noleva for the last twenty years. Encased in his black armor from an accident he never meant to happen, Merek has sought to enslave the people of Noleva since he rose to power. His accident has left him impervious to even the hottest fire and invincible to any known weapon. While he favors brute force, he also understands the tactical advantage that fear can bring to a confrontation and makes use of his size and horrifying appearance whenever possible.

Friends and Enemies

Weaver

A faerie like creature known as a sidreal. Weaver is capable of changing his shape to match anything he desires and disguises himself as Abigail’s teddy bear until he is sure she is one of the lost Aneirin children. When it is time, he helps Abigail uncover her powers and encourages her to return to Noleva where he hopes she can help save the world.

Connor

The captain of the crew of the Nexus, a smuggling ship that takes jobs anywhere and everywhere to keep its crew fed and away from prying eyes and unwanted questions. Connor has a deep distrust of the Aneirin for reasons he is unwilling to explain. Connor has a tattoo on his left hand that signifies him as a member of an ancient organization bound to protect the king of the island of Noleva.

Ada

A member of Connor’s crew and the ship’s main mechanic. She is a former pickpocket, found by Connor and Umoki when she tried to steal from them. Called “Scout” by most of the crew because of her ability to find things and see things others miss, she thinks of the crew as the family she never had and defends each of them with her life.

Flint

A member of Connor’s crew, shrouded in mystery. Flint always wears a hood and cowl that according to Connor is because of injuries sustained in a draven attack. Flint never speaks, except through signs yet knows the children despite their long absence from the shores of Noleva.

Tubor

A giant and member of Connor’s crew. Part time mechanic and full time enforcer, Tubor’s size comes in handy when the crew is in trouble. His allegiance is to profit over friendship which can put him at odds with the rest of the crew.

Umoki

A troll and member of Connor’s crew and the ship’s doctor, when needed. Umoki carries a secret known only to himself and Connor and has pledged his life to keeping that secret safe.

Quisler

A member of Connor’s crew and the helmsman of the Nexus. He is cautious and prefers to not take unnecessary risks. He is quick to speak his mind and let his feelings be known, especially when he disagrees, which is often. A former religious zealot of the cult to the goddess Morrigan, Quisler has agreed to put his beliefs aside to on Connor’s crew.

Grog

A draven of immense size and power compared to others of his species. Due to his gigantic proportions, he is the de facto leader of the dravens and right hand general to Merek himself.

Sert

A great, black dragon. Sert is Merek’s pet and is deeply loyal to his master.

The Supporting Cast

The Book

One of three mysterious items left to the children by their mother. The book is full of stories that the children read every night until the book is taken from them by their cruel adopted father. The stories seem to be just make-believe, but Abigail suspects there may be more to them than anyone else understands.

The Music Box

One of the three items left to the children by their mother. The simple box plays a melody that Catherine sings as a lullaby to her younger sister and hums to herself in times of stress. The box has the words “Aeline’s Song” engraved right side up on one side and the same words written upside down on the other.

The Pendants

The last of the three items given to the children by their mother. The different colored stones (one red, one blue, and one purple) were found by Catherine, who used the leather bag to create the three pendants. Each of the children wear one and have committed to never taking them off.

Morrigan

One of the nine gods who pulled the island of Noleva from the ocean and helped to create the world. During the creation, Morrigan’s brothers and sisters mocked her creations and ideas, fostering discord to the point where Morrigan sought to destroy the creations she and her siblings had made. Bound to the island and weakened by the other deities, the name of Morrigan has been lost and almost forgotten…save by those who wish for her return.

Noleva

The island at the center of the world. Created by nine gods and goddesses who each took part in the island’s creation and development, Noleva was where all life began before it spread across the world. The once important island at the center of all trade has seemingly disappeared. All ships who seek to find the once prosperous island either never find its beautiful shores, or never return.

The Willow’s Rain

Faced with Morrigan’s relentless efforts to destroy the island of Noleva or take it over, the eight other gods and goddesses decide to leave their once proud creation to fate. They imprison their malevolent sister and set a countdown to the end of the world. The only thing that can save Noleva and the world is the return of the Shards of Grace, a treasure of unspecified shape or location. If the Shards are returned, the island and the world will survive. However, if the last leaves from the sacred Willow Tree fall before the Shards are returned…Noleva will be consumed and the world will end.
